How to Transform Your Relationship with Money in 2016.

 Money, and a perceived lack thereof, is a conversation that keeps coming up for me more and more with clients and friends.  Maybe it's because it's the holiday season, where we are worried about the expense of buying gifts. Perhaps it's because we are headed into an election cycle where politicians keep hitting us with messages about how there isn't enough wealth to go around.

I've even found myself getting caught up in this fear as I have ended the year by walking away from a very well paying career in radio to launch my own business. It's been unsettling for me to lose the security blanket of a large paycheck every two weeks, but I have learned some tools that have eliminated my money anxiety. I believe these three tips will serve you as well.

#1 Money is Energy... and that's all.

All too often, we treat money as if it's some mythical creature like a unicorn. We would love to believe that it exists, but our mind tells us it's all a fairy tale and we will never see it.

Stop that!

Simply put, money is an energetic currency that we trade when we get things of value. As a new business owner, I don't feel as if I know all of the tax codes that will keep me from making it through an IRS audit. So I need to go find a certified professional to help me. Thus, my accountant is providing a huge value to me and I will pay him handsomely for his service.

In turn, that accountant takes my money and pays some to the grocery store, so that he may feed his family. The grocery store takes the energetic currency and pays the produce farmer who provides the goods to keep their store open. Hopefully, that produce farmer finds himself needing some life coaching at some point and seeks me out to provide value to him in exchange for money. IT's all a cycle.

Money is energy. Hang onto that concept. I will get back to it in a bit.

#2- What is Your Personal Money Story?

In the last two weeks, I've had conversations with an actor friend who told me that he "will always be poor" if he pursues his dream and a teacher friend who believes "teachers aren't supposed to make money". 

Yet, there are a list of artists who are compensated into the seven-figures for their work, and a host of teachers who have written books and developed online courses that have generated the same revenue.

It is not your talent or chosen vocation that is keeping you from financial abundance. It's the story you tell yourself about money.

So it's important to realize where your story comes from. For instance, if you grew up in a family that lived paycheck to paycheck, you were probably told by parents that "money doesn't grow on trees" or "we might not have Christmas this year because money is tight". 

Your story becomes one of scarcity and you carry that with you into your adult years, but it doesn't make it true.

The reality is that we live in abundant universe where you have the ability to create anything you want, but you are blocking yourself energetically with your self-limiting beliefs. And why is energy important in this discussion?  Because money is energy....

#3- Stop asking "How Can I Make More Money?"

As I've written before, life is not about "getting things". In fact, many of you may have gotten some of the things you wished for (that new BMW, the dream home, the job you always wanted), only to realize that the glow wears off and you just find yourself wanting the next thing on your list. You are never satisfied.

Let's circle back to point #1. Money is an energetic currency that is exchanged when we receive things of value.

So stop asking how you can make more money and ask "How Can I Serve?"

"How can I create more value in the lives of people around me?"

This works on two levels. Spiritually speaking, when you are in service to others, you are aligned with your higher self. This is where true power and joy comes from.

Secondly, from a karma standpoint, when you are giving your energy to serve others, that energy will be returned to you in multiples. And money is energy.

I cannot promise that you will live like Donald Trump, but I can promise that when you operate from this space, there will always be a surplus of money at the end of the month.

So let's get clear on what our money story is and transform it. Let's also stop taking the focus off of the money in favor of focusing on the service. From there, you will be living in alignment with the universe and the blessings will flow.
