Growth Shouldn't Make You Feel Guilty

Do You Ever Feel Guilty For Wanting To Grow?
I recently did a consultation for a new client who is one of the highest achievers I've had the pleasure of working with. She is beautiful, intelligent, and accomplished. She lives in a swanky apartment, has the financial freedom to travel when she wants, and job security for life.
And she is also completely bored.
As we spoke, I could sense a tremendous sense of guilt about this.
"I know I am so blessed, I have a wonderful life. And I know I sound like an ungrateful b***h for saying this...."
I had to step in and cut her off. What I shared with her is what I want to stress to you today.
Your desire to grow is not selfish. The entire purpose of your existence is to grow into the most beautiful, magnificent, fully realized version of yourself.
This is not some woo-woo, new age concept. It's actually science.
A 2014 research study showed that trees have unlimited growth potential. While they eventually stop growing in height, older trees will continue to expand outward, adding more mass over time.
This is not the equivalent of the way humans add fat and a "spare tire" as they age. Old trees are more like active, healthy bodybuilders.
What's really interesting is the older trees become, the bigger service they provide to the ecosystem. The oldest members of the forest pull the most carbon dioxide out of the air and store the most carbon in their wood.
What does all of this have to do with you?
Everything.
Because while you are a fully formed adult, who started as an embryo and has likely reached your maximum height, your "growth" is not meant to stop.
In fact, we are denying our true nature if we don't expand and grow outward. We must expand spiritually. In doing so, we're required to uncover ALL of our talents and gifts and use them to serve the world in a bigger way.
If you aren't growing, you're dying.
And like the trees in the forest, the older we age, the bigger purpose we can serve in the Universe.
In order to do this, we first must stop apologizing for simply wanting what The Universe has always intended for us.
So next time you find yourself feeling bored and stuck, don't judge yourself. Embrace it. You are here to expand and contribute!
