It All Started With A Decision

What a Difference a Year Makes.
 

Exactly one year ago today, I came home mentally depleted after another crappy week at a job that I truly hated. It wasn't just that I felt creatively stifled, I felt as if the company wanted me to change who I was to fit their vision for what a manager should be. 

Every day I felt like I was sitting in somebody else's office, at somebody else's chair, doing somebody else's job. 

The fascinating part is that over the previous three years, I had done so much to take better care of myself. I transformed my physical body, invested in my self-development by training with amazing teachers, and opened myself up to grow in my romantic relationship, I had even created a purpose statement for my life.

"I was born to feel the authenticity that comes from myself and my higher power... and to feel the connection that results from inspiring others to feel the same."

But I knew deep down that I wasn't "walking the walk." I was continuing to flounder in a career that I should have left three years before. How could I inspire others to live authentically if I wasn't doing the same?

And in that moment, I poured myself a glass of pinot noir and made a decision.

I bought a domain name.... CreativeSoulCoaching.net.

I had no idea how to design a website or even a clear vision for what I would put on there. Up until that point, my coaching career consisted of two private clients who asked me to work with them after I led some creative freedom seminars through meetup.com. They paid me $25 an hour once a week to coach them.

Although I had led many successful radio stations all over the United States, I didn't know how to start a business from scratch. I didn't know how to find clients or what to even charge them. I didn't know how to build an email list.

I thought I could take two more years to build out the "perfect" plan.

But as I now teach clients, when you take one step towards living your purpose, the Universe takes three steps back towards you.

The following Monday, my boss called me into his office. The conversation wasn't pleasant. I didn't want to be some corporate puppet. I didn't want to turn into the shuck and jive sales guy that they wanted me to be.

I wanted to be me. I liked me.

So I left.

I walked out of the building and sat in the parking lot of a shopping center wondering what was next. Not knowing who else to reach out to, I emailed a mentor of mine, New York Times Bestselling Author Gabby Bernstein to tell her what happened. 

She replied, "CONGRATULATIONS! The Universe has released you to become the man that you are truly meant to be."

It made me feel good for ten seconds until my brain kicked in and said "BUT WHAT DO I DO NOW?"

The answer was take action every day.

As I did, clients who were also searching for a path to live their purpose began to appear.

Because when you take a step towards your purpose, the Universe takes three steps back towards you.

Within months, I had helped clients in 5 countries create meaningful change, I finally felt the deep sense of fulfillment that had eluded me in the final years of my radio career. I was doing what I once thought was impossible. I was using my gifts and talents to  serve the greater good. 

I was living my life's purpose. 

And it all started with one decision. 

I say the decision was to buy a domain name, but that really was just the action that came from a much deeper, more significant decision.

I made a decision to quit suffering. 

And my greatest wish for you is to make the same decision in your life.

What decision have you been putting off? 

Is it staying in a relationship that no longer serves you? Do you need to put yourself out there more so that you can attract the love you want? Is there a soul-sucking career that you need to leave so your great, new work can come forward? Is now the time to get serious about your physical health? Make a decision today. Then trust that the universe will leave a door cracked to show you where to go from here.
